Why is my Kia Niro not getting good gas mileage?

I recently purchased a Kia Niro and I'm not getting the advertised gas mileage. I'm concerned that there may be a technical issue with my vehicle. What could be causing this and what steps should I take to address it?

Hi Samantha, it's not uncommon for a car's gas mileage to be lower than advertised, especially during the break-in period. It's possible that you just need to drive it a little more and let the engine fully break in before you start seeing the advertised gas mileage. However, if you've been driving for a while and still haven't seen an improvement, it's possible that there could be a mechanical issue at play. I suggest taking your car to a certified mechanic to have it checked out.

Samantha, have you checked your tire pressure? Underinflated tires can significantly impact gas mileage. Make sure to check them regularly, especially in extreme weather conditions. Additionally, are there any warning lights or error codes showing up on your dashboard? If so, it may indicate a problem that needs professional attention.

Hi Samantha, another factor that affects gas mileage is driving habits. Do you tend to accelerate and brake suddenly, or do you maintain a steady and consistent speed? Frequent stops and starts can use up more gas, so try to drive more smoothly and efficiently. Also, keep in mind that using features like air conditioning and driving at high speeds can also decrease gas mileage.
